20.-21.10.2012 21st International Baltic Conference Engineering Materials & Tribology BALTMATTRIB (Tallinn, Estonia)
During 15.03 – 17.03.2012 team „LAV Energy“ is participating in the final round of the Baltic Economic Forum for Students in Riga. Two of the team members, Jörgen Lagemaa and Theodor Vegmann, are students of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering. Only 10 of the best teams in the Baltic States were invited to the final round held in Riga. For admission to the final round the team wrote an essay on the subject „Energy Cooperation in the Baltics.“
The team will give its best to perform excellently in Riga and get to the top!
During 11.03-15.03.2012 students from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering participated in EBEC Baltic engineering competition, held by BEST in Moscow. Students Mart Kolnes, Märt Kolnes, Aron Härsing and Kristjan Kõrgesaar are competing in team design assignment, where participants together with Latvian, Lithuanian and 4 Russian Universities are trying to solve complicated, real life problem. Winners receive an invitation to the next round, or EBEC, where universities from all over Europe are competing with each other.
BLRT and Tallinn University of Technology have signed a new cooperation agreement for training specialists for the shipyard. The latest arrangement is much more broader than past agreements, said representatives of the shipyard and university. "Above all, BLRT is interested in obtaining quality specialists in different fields and that we would be a strong partner in research and development," told rector Andres Keevallik. "We are prepared to develop and outfit laboratories, such as a welding lab." The faculty plans to bring one foreign professor to Estonia to provide expertise on welding, and will also develop a 15 credit-hour module on shipbuilding. Read more...

Peeter Ross from Department of Clinical Medicine of Technomedicum defended PhD thesis „Data Sharing and Shared Workflow in Medical Imaging" (supervisor Prof Ruth Sepper; Co-superv Ass. Prof) successfully on 16th Dec 2011. Opponents were Prof Eliot Siegel, University of Maryland School of Medicine, USA, and PhD Alar Kuusik, TUT Thomas Johann Seebeck Department of Electronics. This was the first defence on new specialisation of Health Care Engineering, covered by PhD curriculum of Mechanical Engineering. Have a look to the photo gallery.
TUT has signed agreement with Skanska EMV AS for designing and construction of V and VI Building.
The construction work was started on 5th September 2011, whereas the estimated deadlines are:
VI Building will be ready by March 2013;
V Building will be ready by March 2014.
