In autumn 2008 the European Commission granted the Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence status to the project on ‘The European Union, Foreign Policy and Global Governance’. With this Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence five different institutes and centres of the KU Leuven created a network in order to enhance the visibility of the education and research on the role of the EU in a globalising world and to create a forum for multidisciplinary cooperation. The network builds upon a longstanding engagement with the EC Jean Monnet Programme, having among its members three current holders (Frank Delmartino, Stephan Keukeleire and Jan Wouters) and one former holder of a Jean Monnet Chair (Koen Lenaerts).
